Zika Virus – Travelling whilst Pregnant

Over recent weeks cases of Zika virus have been reported in various parts of South America and Atlantic Islands. The Foreign and Commonwealth office (www.fco.go.uk) currently suggest that those travelling should follow the advice of the National Travel Health Network and Centre, particularly if you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant and to seek advice from a health professional if you have any further questions or concerns.

Whilst the situation is developing at a rapid pace our pregnant travel policy is designed to cover sudden and unforeseen issues.

As such any policies taken out from this point onwards will not provide any indemnity for Zika related claims or cancellations in the domiciles which are mentioned on the FCO website at the time of buying the travel insurance.

Claims for cancellations should be made against the travel providers, as the advice on the FCO website asks pregnant travellers to reconsider their travel plans. As such we recommend that you follow the instructions currently given and refer to a healthcare professional for advice.

As above if the advice  given is not to travel we would ask you to contact your travel provider and try to arrange alternative travel or refund.

All valid claims for trip cancellation will be considered according to our policy conditions. It should be noted that disinclination to travel without the relevant health professional advice is not covered by our policy. As part of any claim you will be required to provide contact details of the relevant GP or health professional along with your consent for insurers to contact them in relation to your ability to travel.
