Is Your Arena Floor Insured?

Four years ago, we launched our Equestrian Business property product and one of the biggest issues that we had discovered when looking over claims data, was the absence of cover for arena floors.

Ordinarily, your Buildings Insurance cover would include permanent fixtures and fittings i.e. anything that needs a tool to be removed and wouldn’t be taken with you should you move premises. A Contents Insurance section will generally cover anything not fixed and that you would take with you should you move premises.

You may not take your surface with you but depending on the definition of buildings or indeed contents on a lot of policies available in the market, Arena floors fell between the gaps.

To avoid any doubt, the Ravenhall Specialist Equestrian Business Property Policy automatically includes Arena Floors within the Buildings definition, we actively encourage customers to consider the cost of replacement of the arena floor to ensure that the building sum insured is sufficient.

You may also find it very difficult to foresee that your arena floor could be damaged in any way. Common causes of damage are:

Fire or Building Damage – if an Indoor arena suffered a fire, the arena surface could also be severely damaged, particularly by the emergency services in the process of extinguishing a fire.

Storm and Flood – not just river flooding, surface water run-off is increasingly common and can very easily wash away an arena surface.

Escape of water – as above, the arena surface can very easily be washed away or contaminated

Theft/Malicious Damage/Vandalism – Most businesses would struggle to cope with a damaged arena floor for a period of time, so effective insurance is a must.
